Covering 200,000 square feet, the Farringdon Row development serves as a magnificent gateway to Riverside Sunderland, aligning perfectly with the Sunderland City Council’s vison to create exceptional buildings that elevate the city’s built environment.

To that end FFS worked with Goldbeck and Sir Robert McAlpine to deliver the Riverside Sunderland Multistorey Car Park.

Providing Schuco Fire-rated and Non Fire-rated Steel Glazing to the public entrances, control room and stair cores – the later forming Living Walls at either end of the building.

Adorned with over 50,000 plants the spectacular Living Walls on the North and South elevations help promote sustainability and environmental consciousness.

One challenge FFS faced was to design window surround pressings that would drain away from the glazing and back into the fabric of the living wall thus allowing the dramatic planting scheme to float effortlessly across the stair core facades.

Together with the perforated external cladding the living walls provide a striking effect when illuminated at night.

The carpark has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Best New Car Park Award’ at the British Parking Awards.
